3/27/2010 - BRANDON LERENA JOINS THE TEAM
| Brandon Lerena has joined the stable as our official stable jockey. Matthew Stevens took time out to sit down with Brandon for a chat, and this is what Brandon had to say; "I feel I am very lucky to have been offered this job by Dominic, it was a job of a lifetime for me. He has proven that he is a top trainer, finishing in the top 6 on the National Trainer's Log twice in the last 3 years, so the decision was very easy to make. I started working with the yard at the beggining of the week, and Zaki racing is a big team of great horsemen and women. I ride work at the stables at least 3 times a week. The horses are all settled being in such a calm and open enviroment which I believe is the key to the success of horses in thier futures as athletes. I will strive to go to the top with the yard, my long term goal as part of the stable is to be champion jockey with Dominic being champion trainer. Another goal is to win as many group and minor races as we can. I would like to grow with the stable, I have not moved entirely to Jhb but am happy to say that my cousin Gavin has invited me into his home for the time being. I was very impressed with Ibrox Park this week winning on debut, she has an incredible amount of natural speed and a huge stride. Straight Forward is a real champion in the making and he is a really exiting prospect for the future. I have ridden many promising young 2 and 3 year olds in the string so far. There is no limit to what we can achieve with the team we have." Brandon Lerena |
